As the Production Manager, Brunno is responsible for integrating the aquaculture and leafy green production operations, guaranteeing that the food given to the fish is sufficient to produce enough nutrients to grow the delicious leafy greens in our state-of-the-art controlled environment greenhouse. This includes daily monitoring of nutrient dynamics, calculation of nutrient budgets, plant tissue analysis, and product quality assurance.
Brunno is originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, but spent his last four years of his life pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Soil, Water, and Environmental Science at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, AZ. Brunno and his wife Jacqueline loved to go hiking and take pictures in the Sonoran Desert. He now lives in Eau Claire, WI with his wife, and loves to explore the area trying new restaurants and coffee shops. Brunno is a coffee lover, and likes to experiment with different blends and roasts, always in pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee.
Outside of work, Brunno enjoys watching movies with his wife, both at home and in the theater. They visited several beautiful places in the United States, including the Grand Canyon, and the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. His favorites are the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum.

Describe your job to someone who knows nothing about your industry.
Aquaponics is a relatively new industry recognized as one of the most resource-use efficient food production systems in the world. It combines fish farming with a soil-less vegetable production that promotes a symbiotic relationship between fish and plants. As fish grow and produce waste in the water, plants grow using the fish waste and by doing so, they clean the water for the fish. Both organisms grow happily together, resulting in high quality seafood and fresh produce. The environment is also benefited because no pollutants are released to contaminate our surface waters, aquifers, and soils. Since water is constantly recycled, water consumption is highly minimized.
