Every Treasure Deserves a Map
Superior Fresh, together with Freshwater Family Farms, has made a significant impact on the flora and fauna of the property. Species that have been absent from the region for decades are flourishing. We have also had a significant impact on the community, hosting farm visits fostering knowledge and enthusiasm for the world we share.
Over 60 native plant species have returned, including several Wisconsin Special Concern species such as the Wild Petunia, Pale Purple Coneflower and the Hairy Beard Tongue
Native prairie restoration began in 2014 by planting over 331,000 native plugs in littoral zones (lake shoreline) totaling 16.71 acres.
Aquatic restoration began in 2012 when we constructed the 30-acre lower lake, enhanced dam structures and stocked with native fish. With time, as the habitat improves, fish too will become sustainable and stocking will no longer be required.
We grow and harvest several varieties of edible mushrooms including shiitakes, oysters, nomekos and hericiums.
Woodland planting, introducing 5,364 native shade tolerant species to the farm.
Used controlled burn to clear invasive woodland and planted native species to re-establish into native oak savannah.
In 2018, seeds from 41 different prairie species were harvested, and cleaned, by hand.
