Livestock & Farm Operations Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

Superior Fresh Family Farms is seeking a dedicated and skilled Livestock & Farm Operations Specialist, who will play a pivotal role in our farm's success by performing a diverse range of tasks, from managing the livestock, operating farm machinery to engaging in manual labor. This position involves the husbandry of animals, running a compost site, maintaining equipment, prioritizing safety, participating in property maintenance, and actively contributing to the development of cutting-edge farming techniques. JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years of agriculture experience required including livestock husbandry (cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, or swine preferred).

  • Proven experience in operating and maintaining farm machinery.

• Licenses or Certifications:

  • Driver’s license (Class D-required, Class A or B- preferred)

  • ATV license

  • Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator license

  • Farm equipment/chainsaw safety

POSITION DETAILS

• Status: Full-Time

• Schedule:

  • May include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Located in remote/rural environment.

• Wage Grade: Starting pay is based on experience.

• Location: Hixton, WI

Primary Job Functions

1. Inspect, safely operate and maintain various farm machinery, such as chainsaws, tractors, skid steers, planters, and irrigation systems.

2. Support conservation and sustainable land management practices to improve soil health, pasture quality, and overall farm sustainability.

3. Oversee planting, cultivating, harvesting, and storage of crops or forages used for livestock feed.

4. Oversee daily care and feeding of livestock, ensuring health, welfare, and proper nutrition, report health concerns promptly to the Farm Manager.

5. Maintain clean and safe housing, fencing, and equipment for both functionality and aesthetics.

6. Assist with breeding, calving, or other animal reproduction and birthing processes as needed.

7. Follow and promote biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare standards at all times.

8. Maintain accurate records related to livestock health, feeding, production, and farm activities.

9. Collaborate with farm managers and other team members to achieve production goals and improve efficiency.

10. Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly to the farm manager

11. Keep digital records of equipment maintenance activities.

12. Engage in manual labor tasks, including planting, mowing, control burning, and other farm-related activities.

13. Participate in seasonal tasks to enhance the overall aesthetics and functionality of the property.

14. Foster a culture of safety by adhering to and promoting safety protocols and guidelines in all farm operations and equipment usage.

15. Participate in safety training programs, support safety initiatives and attend workshops contributing to the ongoing development of safety programs to enhance the well-being of the farm workforce.

16. Stay informed about the latest advancements and innovations in farming practices.

17. Actively contribute ideas and suggestions for improving farming techniques and efficiency.

18. Participate in experimental and innovative projects aimed at enhancing productivity.
