POSITION SUMMARY

The Processing Manager will be responsible for the daily operations and duties in the aquaculture processing department of Superior Fresh, IN, for the consumption of Atlantic Salmon. This position is responsible for managing technicians that are performing work within the processing room, purge, and other associated areas of responsibility. They will be expected to communicate and coordinate with the Sales and Logistics teams of Superior Fresh to ensure that orders are being filled and ensure the product is properly loaded onto third party carriers. This position will be responsible for (in collaboration with the FSQA and Production Manager) attaining and maintaining all certifications and regulatory requirements for food safety (SQF, FDA, etc.). All operations will be done in accordance with the company HACCP/food safety plans, strict biosecurity measures, safety requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). In addition to responsibilities in the processing room, the Processing Manager will also oversee the purge area and fish.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in operations, food science, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience and education, perferred

    • High School Diploma or equivalent, required

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of plant or operations leadership experience in salmon, seafood, or food processing

  • Licenses or Certifications:

    • Driver’s License

    • Seafood HACCP Certification

    • SQF Practitioner Certification, preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of food safety systems including HACCP, GMPs, sanitation programs, environmental monitoring, traceability, and corrective actions

  • Advanced knowledge of food processing and value add products, including raw material handling, processing workflows, storage, and shipment

Job Functions

  • Oversee all seafood processing operations and weekly harvests to meet bio-plan, quality, and sales requirements (filleting, pinning, skinning, packing, labeling, samples, and special requests).

  • Manage HACCP, FDA, DATCP, SQF, Whole Chain, and other third-party documentation, product tracking, and inventory records.

  • Coordinate closely with Sales to align processing volumes with weekly demand and maintain accurate salmon inventory.

  • Plan and prepare harvests by coordinating fish movement from Grow-Out to purge, assessing weights, and reporting data to required parties.

  • Ensure a safe working environment in a physically demanding processing operation while reinforcing 5S and organizational standards that support efficiency, consistency, and compliance across work areas, systems, and documentation.

  • Promote and reinforce a strong food safety culture across all departments and shifts through clear expectations, training, and accountability.

  • Maintain an audit-ready facility; manage records, non-conformances, and GMP compliance in partnership with FSQA.

  • Ensure safe operation, sanitation, and maintenance of all processing equipment (e.g., Picies, vacuum sealers, ice machine).

  • Maintain and update Seafood HACCP plans, SSOPs, and operational SOPs in alignment with regulatory and company standards.

  • Ensure processing room cleanliness and perform environmental monitoring per company requirements.

  • Communicate key operational issues (quality concerns, volume discrepancies, packaging issues, customer complaints) to the Production Manager promptly.

  • Record daily operational data accurately in digital or written formats per SOPs.

  • Optimize labor, workflow, and equipment utilization to improve efficiency, yield, and cost control.

  • Support value-added product development and maintain high quality standards for all processed salmon.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts, monitor performance metrics, and implement process enhancements.

  • Manage processing room, packaging supplies, and ice inventory; issue purchase orders to avoid operational gaps.

  • Manage department budgets, including labor, overtime, yield performance, and controllable expenses; support capital projects and new equipment integration.

  • Lead and develop the processing team, ensuring effective staffing, training, performance management, and alignment with company values

  • Communicate operational performance, risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership clearly and in a timely manner.

  • Follow all company designated record keeping activities.

  • Comply with worker safety, biosecurity and food safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
